This camp is all about introducing the fundamentals and excitement of river running.
The mission of our Level 2 camps is to promote the excitement and fun that whitewater kayaking can provide to our middle school and high school-age students. In this camp, we will spend our first-day doing flat water skills, introducing the spray skirt, and how to safely wet exit. The remainder of the camp will be spent on the river. The stretches of river that we have chosen have more mileage and more whitewater than our level 1 camp. That being said, none of the rapids that the students paddle exceed the difficulty of class 2+. Skills focused in this program are wet exits, eddy catches, ferrying, scouting rapids, safety skills, and more.
Recommended Age: 12 to 15 years old. A confident and skilled 11-year-old who has completed Level 1 and is comfortable with water may be considered.
Required Experience: The Level 1 camp (previously known as “kids camp”) is recommended before Level 2, but we have new students in the Level 2 program all the time. We just require that all students are moderately proficient at swimming and can embrace the adventure that this program will provide. All students are issued a whitewater life jacket that is worn throughout the week.
